In what has been a strange development, every exit poll has gone horribly wrong in the recent Haryana elections. While all major agencies predicted an easy victory for the Congress, the BJP’s victory was ultimately quite comfortable and the saffron party once again formed the government for the third time. This has led to damaging discussions about tampering with EVM and other related matters.
Agreeing with this, even AP’s Jagan Mohan Reddy sang along with the same lyrics citing the Haryana elections as a testimony to the return of paper ballots. This story was circulated by the YSR Congress group for a few days after that.
However, Central Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar addressed this burning issue today and made a series of assertive statements. He criticized the first-trend culture adopted by the media as the reason behind the confusion in counting trends.
The CEC mentioned that all major media companies that conduct exit polls broadcast the top trends on their streaming platforms in a fabricated manner. “In order to justify their exit polls, these media display initial trends in line with their projections. They are distorting the facts even at 8:10 am. In reality, the countdown starts at 8:30 a.m. and the first trends are published at 9:30 a.m. All media reports before this are fabricated. He noted.
Rajiv Kumar concluded that EVMs are 100% safe and there is no possibility of foul play here. The opposition may be looking to make a meal of the EVMs, but we are ready to answer them how many times it will be necessary, he said.
