President Biden’s use of maps and a list of journalists’ names made another notable appearance Wednesday.
Biden made the remarks during a joint news conference outside the White House with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. Throughout the press conference, Biden looked at the podium as he spoke to answer questions, using what looked like notes seen in the reflection of his sunglasses.
Biden also noted that he has a “list” of reporters to call on next.
“Who should I call next? Wait a second. I have my list here. Wait. I apologize,” Biden said.
In the Oval Office earlier in the day, Biden could also be seen referencing what appeared to be notes while welcoming Kishida.
“Well, Fumio, welcome to the White House. Welcome to the Oval Office. It’s good to have you here. Good to see you again. When we were here last year, we talked about the role that states play -United and “Japan is getting even bigger. And we… I couldn’t agree more with your statement at the time. And what we’re seeing in our shared support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s brutal assault is nothing short of outrageous,” Biden said.
Throughout the Biden administration, the president has been called out both for referencing notes at events and for calling on reporters from pre-approved lists.
Last March, Fox Business’ Edward Lawrence asked the White House press officer Karine Jean-Pierre about the president caught referencing notes during meetings with other prime ministers.

“If I may, I noticed that the president had cards at the border when he was briefing there. He also had cards last Friday with the Italian Prime Minister. Why is the president relying- Is it so much on the files?” » asked Laurent.
Jean-Pierre retorted: “Are you upset because the president has files? Are you asking me a question about the fact that the president has files?”
The journalist replied: “I ask why he relies so much on…”
She interrupted him by saying: “The president who probably had one of the most successful first three years of administration than any president in modern times? He accomplished more in the first three years than most two-term presidents. Are you asking me questions about the files? I do not think so… “
In October Biden was caught holding a note card with the names and images of journalists at a press conference. All the names on the list were questioned during the event.
