Claims that solar subsidies lead to overcapacity have been a constant refrain in the U.S.-China trade war over the past year. Last month, China delivered.
The China Photovoltaic Industry Association said the United States has “aggressively expanded its solar capacity through exclusive and discriminatory subsidy policies” in recent years, while at the same time accusing China of excessively subsidizing its own new energy sector – “demonstrating double standards”.
“These actions will lead to overcapacity in the United States,” he warned, adding that this would have a negative impact on the healthy development of the industry globally.
For the United States, a big uncertainty concerns the presidential election next month.
Republican candidate Donald Trump said he would “cancel all unspent (IRA) funds.” But he also said he was a “big fan” of solar power during a debate with Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris on September 10.
