WASHINGTON—At today’s hearing on “The basis for an impeachment inquiry into President Joseph R. Biden, Jr..,” House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) detailed how overwhelming evidence shows President Joe Biden lied to the American people about his knowledge and participation to his family’s corrupt international and domestic business schemes.
Since January, the Oversight Committee uncovered how the Bidens and their associates created more than 20 shell companies, raised more than $24 million from China and other foreign countries, identified nine Biden family members who participated in or benefited from the business projects, and confirmed that Joe Biden interacted with his family’s business associates at least two dozen times. In opening an impeachment inquiry, Chairman Comer noted that the Committees on Oversight and Accountability, Judiciary, and Ways and Means are now investigating whether President Biden engaged in impeachable offenses in under the American Constitution. The House Oversight Committee, along with the Judiciary and Ways and Means committees, will continue to track the money and evidence to ensure accountability so Americans know their public offices are not for sale .
Below are Chairman Comer’s remarks as prepared for the presentation.
Since we gained the Republican majority in January, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee has uncovered a mountain of evidence revealing how Joe Biden abused his public office for his family’s financial gain.
For years, President Biden lied to the American people about his knowledge of and participation in his family’s corrupt business schemes.
At least ten timesJoe Biden lied to the American people when he said he never told his family about their business dealings.
He lied and told the American people that there was an “absolute wall” between his official government duties and his personal life.
Let’s be clear: there was no wall. The door was wide open to those buying into what one associate described as “the Biden brand.”
Evidence reveals that Joe Biden, then vice president, talked, dined and developed relationships with his family’s target foreign companies. These business targets include foreign oligarchs who sent millions of dollars to his family. It also involves a Chinese national who transferred a quarter of a million dollars to his son.
Joe Biden also lied to the American people about his family making money in China. He continued to lie about it even when the House Oversight Committee uncovered bank transfers revealing how the Bidens received millions from Chinese companies with significant ties to Chinese intelligence and the Communist Party Chinese.
Just this week, we discovered two additional telegrams sent to Hunter Biden from Beijing by Chinese nationals. This happened when Joe Biden was running for President of the United States. And Joe Biden’s home address is listed as the recipient’s address.
To date, the House Oversight Committee has uncovered how the Bidens and their associates created more than 20 shell companies – most of which were created when Joe Biden was vice president – and raised more than $24 million between 2014-2019.
We also identified nine members of the Biden family who participated in or benefited from these business ventures.
What were the Bidens selling to make all this money?
Joe Biden himself.
Joe Biden is “the brand”. And Joe Biden showed up at least two dozen times with business targets and associates, sending signals of access, influence and power to those willing to pay for it.
The American people demand accountability for this culture of corruption.
They are demanding to know how these schemes compromised President Biden and threaten our national security.
They demand that safeguards be put in place to prevent public officials from selling access to their public functions for private gain.
Led by Speaker Kevin McCarthy, House Republicans have opened an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
By opening an impeachment inquiry, our investigation now focuses on whether President Biden committed impeachable offenses under the U.S. Constitution.
It allows Congress, elected by the people, to continue to provide the answers, transparency and accountability that the American people demand and deserve.
In recent history, Democrats have done much damage to the credibility of Congressional investigations by peddling the Russia collusion hoax.
But this Committee, with this majority, will not pursue such witch hunts based on fabricated allegations, innuendo and no real evidence.
Today, the House Oversight Committee will consider more than two dozen pieces of evidence revealing Joe Biden’s corruption and abuse of public office. This includes emails, text messages, bank statements and testimony from Biden’s business associates.
We’ll hear from legal and financial experts about this evidence and the crimes that may have been committed in Joe Biden’s sellout around the world.
The House Oversight Committee, along with the Judiciary and Ways and Means committees, will continue to follow the money and evidence to ensure accountability so Americans know their public offices are not for sale .
