Amid the debate, we take a look at where the two candidates stand in terms of popularity with American voters. While Trump was well ahead in his contest against the US president, Joe BidenHarris’ takeover of the campaign has caused something of a reversal of fortunes. So has Harris’ initial momentum helped maintain a stable lead? We take a look.
Trump vs. Harris: What do the US polls say?
NOW, Harris and Trump are locked in a “tight contest,” according to several opinion polls conducted on September 10, the Hindustan Times reported.
Americans are slightly more likely to trust Trump than Harris when it comes to handling the economy, according to an August AP-NORC poll, AP reported.
The New York Times/Siena College poll released Sept. 8 found that 28 percent of likely voters said they need to know more about Harris, while only 9% said the same about Trump, Bloomberg reported.
Additionally, more than six in 10 likely voters said the next president should represent a major change from Joe Biden — something Harris struggled with, the Bloomberg report added. And just a quarter of respondents to the NYT/Siena poll said Harris represented that change, while 53% said Trump did.
Harris leads by narrow margin
The NYT/Siena poll showed Asset Harris leads 48% to 47% among 1,695 registered voters. The poll was conducted September 3-6. It should be noted that while Trump only has a 1% lead, the poll’s margin of error is 2.8 percentage points, according to the HT report.
In a poll victory for Emerson College, Harris Donald Trump has a slight lead over Trump (49% to 47%). Among those surveyed, 3% said they were undecided and 1% would like to vote for another candidate, the report added.
Then, the Morning Consult and FiveThirtyEight polls also showed Harris ahead of Trump, 49%-46% and 47.1%-44.3%, respectively.
The stakes are high in key states
In the key battleground states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, the YouGov poll shows Harris versus Trump at 50%-49%, 50%-50% and 51%-49%, respectively.
Another poll by the Washington Post showed Harris and Trump each leading in three of seven areas. Swing StatesFor Harris, those three states are Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. For Trump, they are Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina, HT reports. The Washington Post poll combines data from national and state polls and takes into account the last two winners of a given state’s election.
It’s worth noting that polls in 2016 and 2020 recorded weak support for Trump in those elections, so the fact that the numbers are so close provides little comfort to Harris’ campaign.
