How is this election going? The House of Representatives is the lower house of the United States Congress. Members are elected from districts in each state. The number of districts in a state is determined by its population at the last census, with smaller states having only one “at-large” district. The 435 districts are contested every two years. Most states use a first-past-the-post system to elect representatives, but some require an absolute majority through a runoff or ranked-choice vote.
