Hunter Biden’s Chinese energy trading partner told investigators he never had “professional” contact with Joe Bidenbut did not understand why the Biden family was involved in energy deals, without having any experience in the sector.
House Republicans Former Biden associate Mervyn Yan arrested Thursday to answer questions as part of their impeachment inquiry into the president Joe BidenHis alleged ties to his family’s shady dealings.
THE GOP is focused on tracking down millions of dollars that flowed between Chinese businessman Mervyn Yan and family associate John “Rob” Walker, who they say used shell companies to allegedly file the foreign money in Biden’s bank accounts.
According to Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., Yan “admitted on the record” during questioning that the Biden family had “no experience in the energy and infrastructure sectors and was unsure about what ‘she brought to the table’.
But Democratic investigators insisted that Yan said he “never did business” or had any “personal or professional communications” with Joe Biden.
He apparently told the committees that Hunter brought “legitimate value” through “supply agreements” and “project identification” for their joint venture, according to a source.
Republicans are investigating how Joe Biden may have benefited from relationships with “Chinese sources” and other foreign entities developed by his son Hunter and brother James Biden.
Additionally, Yan’s lawyer argued that his client “had no professional contact or communication with President Biden at any time” and that he had no documentation demonstrating “misconduct” on the part of Joe, according to a letter to Comer.
Republicans hope Walker’s testimony tomorrow will shed additional light on the situation.
Yan and Walker were subpoenaed for transcribed closed-door interviews Thursday and Friday at 10 a.m. ET, respectively, before the House Oversight and Judiciary committees.
They were called because of information the GOP says it has about how Joe Biden may have benefited from relationships with “Chinese sources” and other foreign entities developed by his son Hunter and brother James Biden.
Hunter Biden confirmed that he will also appear for his own testimony late next month – a sign that Republicans are close to concluding their investigation. He had previously rejected a subpoena requiring him to appear for a closed-door interview and the GOP began the process of keeping him in custody for contempt of court. Congress.
Rob Walker was considered a “substitute‘ for members of the Biden family when it comes to trade relations and he helped facilitate lucrative opportunities with China and Romania.
Walker worked with Hunter Biden on Sinohawk Holdings, a joint venture with Chinese energy company CEFC under its chairman Ye Jianming.
You gave Hunter a diamond in 2017 when they had a business relationship immediately after Joe Biden left the vice presidency.
But in November 2017, the company was accused of corruption in Africa by the Justice Department. He was arrested in China in March 2018, apparently on the orders of Xi Jinping, and has not been seen or heard from since.
Mervyn Yan, a CEFEC executive and former Ye associate, also worked with Hunter on his Hudson West III project.
Lawmakers are particularly concerned about the millions of dollars coming from China And Romania which, they say, were transferred from strangers to shell companies and then into the hands of Joe’s family members.
Walker created “Robinson Walker, LLC,” a limited liability company that Republicans said was “used as a vehicle to receive foreign funds and send a percentage of the money to members of the Biden family.”
This includes millions of dollars from a company owned by Romanian Gabriel Popoviciu, who was under investigation for corruption at the time.
Chinese energy company CEFC was established under its former chairman Ye Jianming
Rob Walker was seen as a ‘surrogate’ for Biden family members when it came to business dealings
“After receiving this money, Robinson Walker sent more than $1 million to the Biden family accounts, including those of Hunter Biden,” the Republicans accuse.
In a memo released last year, the GOP presented documents showing Hallie received $35,000 in two transfers from Walker.
The money came after Walker received a $3 million wire transfer from Chinese company State Energy HK Limited, an affiliate of CEFC.
In November, Speaker James Comer, R-Ky., revealed a $40,000 direct payment to Joe from 2017, called a “loan repayment” that he said is “laundered money” that can be attributed to the CEFC, linked to the Chinese Communist Party.
In August 2017 WhatsApp messages previously published by DailyMail.com, Hunter demanded $10 million from CEFC and claimed his father was “sitting here” next to him during the exchange.
On March 1, 2018, Americore transferred a $200,000 loan to James and Sara Biden’s personal bank account.
After an initial $5 million from CEFC was invested in the joint venture on August 8, 2017, and a transfer of $400,000 was placed into the Hunter Biden entity of Owasco, PC the same day . Then, $150,000 was transferred directly from Owasco to the bank account of James and Sara Biden – Joe’s sister-in-law – on August 14, 2017.
Then, on September 3, 2017, Sara wrote a check for $40,000 directly to Joe – just six days after withdrawing $50,000 in cash, according to the documents obtained.
Additionally, according to emails found on Hunter’s laptop, Yan allegedly demanded more money from the president’s son.
Joe Biden has already said that Hunter never made money in China, and the White House has maintained that the president never benefited from his family’s business ventures.
The Republicans too revealed a separate $200,000 personal check from James Biden to Joe Biden.
According to bankruptcy court documents obtained by the House Oversight Committee, James Biden took money from his health care company Americore and sent it directly to his brother Joe Biden.
Documents show that in 2018, James Biden obtained $600,000 in loans from Americore. James was able to receive the loans based on “representations” that his last name, “Biden,” could “open doors.”
On March 1, 2018, Americore transferred a $200,000 loan to James and Sara Biden’s personal bank account.
The same day, James Biden wrote a $200,000 check to “Joseph R. Biden” from his personal account for “loan repayment.” At the time, Joe had already left the position of vice president.
Republicans say bank records show Biden family and associates raised over $20 million from China, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Romania.
