Former President Donald Trump hit on familiar talking points at a campaign rally at a central Wisconsin airfield Saturday, projecting confidence ahead of Tuesday’s debate against Vice President Kamala Harris while shouting out his allies Elon Musk and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Here are some excerpts from what Trump said at the rally:
On the debate: Trump said the country was run by “stupid people” and that we “found out in the debate with Joe (Biden).”
“We’re going to find out again Tuesday night. Is anybody going to watch?” Trump asked the crowd. The former president predicted that pundits would say he lost the debate, even “if I destroy it.”
Praise for RFK Jr.: Trump has repeatedly praised Kennedy, saying that with his help, “we’re going to take on the corruption at the FDA, the CDC, the World Health Organization and other public health institutions.”
Kennedy, the former independent presidential candidate who adopted conspiracy theories on vaccines and other issues, was positioned by the former president to lead a panel investigating chronic health problems in a possible second Trump administration.
About Boeing and SpaceX: Trump said that Boeing Starliner crew stuck in space is “embarrassing” and that Musk, SpaceX CEO, “is going to have to save them.”
Trump has continued to publicly praise the tech billionaire amid the Tightening of the alliance between the two men.
“He’s very good at what he does,” Trump said of Elon Musk. “Leon’s going to send up a rocket, he’s looking forward to it,” he added, apparently omitting his ally’s first name.
Elon Musk’s praise comes days after Trump announced he would appoint Musk to head a newly created government efficiency commission if re-elected.
The Colorado vote: Trump said Colorado residents should “have a major protest vote” in his favor because of the failed campaign. efforts to eliminate him from the ballotwho had cited the insurrection clause of the 14th Amendment in connection with the January 6 Capitol riot.
