Jeff Bezosfounder and former CEO of Amazonand his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, a former news anchor and philanthropist, were among about 200 guests at a state dinner at the White House on Wednesday.
The couple went public with their relationship in 2019, following Bezos’ split from his ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott.
President Joe Biden hosted a dinner for Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to celebrate relations between the two countries.
Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan, Tim Cook, Apple CEOand the head of BlackRock Larry Fink were also present, alongside the former president Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and the actor Robert De Niro.
Masayoshi Son, founder of SoftBank and former Mitsubishi chairman Ken Kobayashi were also on the guest list.
The Washington Post called the event “full of formality and lacking in subtlety.”
Jill Biden had the White House floor transformed into what she dubbed a “lively spring garden” for the event. Guests were treated to a three-course meal inspired by American and Japanese cuisine.
Business and technology leaders are no strangers to state events.
Last year, the White House hosted a dinner for India Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Guests included Tim Cook, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAIAnd Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google.
