If there is one One thing most Americans can agree on is that Airlines companies have become far too comfortable charging extra for things that were once considered basic amenities. Unwanted charges rage in industry. Everything from baggage to itinerary changes to how quickly you can check in can now potentially incur additional fees. So when the president Joe BidenIf Donald Trump’s administration proposed waiving seat selection fees for families with children, you’d think self-described pro-family Republicans wouldn’t object.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), however, is not a fan.
“What next? Is Joe Biden using his power as president to demand that children also eat free at all restaurants? Why don’t you do your job and CLOSE THE BORDER instead of just votes!!! ” Green wrote Monday on X, formerly Twitter. It should be noted that Greene is currently opposes a standard Approved by Biden border reform wrap is making its way through the Senate, despite his calls for action on immigration.
“You should be able to travel with your child – and sit next to them – without paying extra,” Biden wrote earlier Monday on X. “It’s time for all airlines to offer free family seats.”
“Have you ever purchased tickets to a big game based on a single price, but then noticed the price increased at checkout due to hidden fees?” the president added in another post. “Economists call this ‘trickle pricing’ and companies use it to rip you off. Under my administration, we are putting an end to these hidden unwanted fees.”
In October, the White House announced a push to eliminate unwanted fees and increase pricing transparency for consumers across various sectors. The initiative includes a proposed rule that would require companies to show full price of a product, fare or ticket in advance and prohibit them from “charging hidden and misleading fees”. Last month, Biden went even further by propose a new rule this would “end excessive overdraft fees” imposed by banks and other financial institutions.
The proposal to waive fees for families wanting to book plane seats together was initially introduced in March last year, to widespread opposition from commercial airlines.
Greene continued to oppose the proposal to stop charging parents to sit next to their children later Monday. “Remove the POTUS social media accounts of 20 year olds who understand NOTHING about business!” Lord, help us,” she said wrote.
Hopefully more parents will benefit from a smoother experience journey experience in the future. Lord help anyone who finds themselves next to Greene on a flight.
