YSR Congress Party General Secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy is an important pillar of the party and on any important political issue, he is the one who immediately makes a statement or addresses a press conference to represent the party’s stand .
At the same time, Sajjala is also an advisor to the Andhra Pradesh government on public affairs, enjoying the rank of minister, with perks and salaries drawn from the state exchequer. As such, he is a civil servant.
Now that the model code of conduct for elections is in force, state government employees are not supposed to make political statements, speak in favor of the ruling party and attack opposition parties.
Thus, the Election Commission of India issued an order prohibiting Sajjala from making any political statements or speaking on behalf of the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh, as he was appointed by decree and receives salaries from the consolidated fund of the government of the state.
“The MCC, which applies to all government employees and ministers, is applicable even to government advisors. As such, the 40 government advisors should refrain from making political statements in violation of the model code of conduct,” the EC said in its latest order.
The EC said it noticed that the councilors were undertaking political campaigning, which is not their mission, and attacking opposition parties.
“They come under the jurisdiction of MCC and are violating the same rules, strict action will be taken against them,” the EC said.
