However, the digital buzz did not abruptly change overnight after the election. According to Google Trends data covering the week of May 13-22 (10 days after the election), people searched for election-related information, particularly focusing on exit polls and voter turnout. Over the past week, a subtle transformation has become evident as search queries have shifted to other topics such as exam tips, rankings, exam answer sheets, dates results, etc.
A faculty member of the political science department of Andhra University, Dr V Hari Babu, said it was common for audiences, both online and offline, to engage in discussions on voting patterns, regional variations, gender differences in voter turnout and potential outcomes. within a week to ten days following an election. “The same pattern will persist even after the election results are declared. As the weeks pass, the initial enthusiasm gradually fades, a phenomenon observed all over the world every time elections take place. This has been discussed in several research articles,” said Dr Hari Babu.
The growing ubiquity of smartphones, even in rural areas of the state, has fueled the increasing trend of online searches and discussions on various social networks and messaging platforms, the political science faculty said.
According to Google Trends data, the TDP dominated search queries in Andhra Pradesh for the last 90 days, while the YSRCP attracted the most attention during the 2019 elections.
