Political trends from “local” polls

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi made a clean sweep of rural local elections in Telangana, securing majority in all district bodies. The TRS was well ahead of the main opposition Congress in elections to Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTC) and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTC) as counting of votes began on Tuesday. The ruling party was poised to take power at the district body level in the 32 districts where elections were held in three phases last month.
