Talks between Taiwan’s main opposition parties – the Kuomintang and the Taiwan People’s Party – appear to have broken down. The two sides had initially agreed to work together to form a joint presidential bid for the upcoming elections in January. But both parties withdrew from the negotiations, following tough negotiations broadcast live on television. Political parties have until tomorrow to register and present themselves. The ruling Democratic Progressive Party confirmed his candidacy with the electoral office on Tuesday. Tan Si Hui reports.
