ROANOKE, Virginia (WFXR) – On Tuesday, June 18, Virginia Tech political science professor Dr. Karen Hult and Liberty University government professor Aaron Van Allen joined WFXR News in studio to discuss the state’s primary election races. 2024 and issues that drive voters to the polls and turnout trends.
Historically, primaries generally have low turnout. John McGuire indicated a higher than normal participation rate.
According to Van Allen, issues that are at the forefront of getting voters to the polls include immigration and abortion. Economic issues such as the price of housing and food are more “ignored,” Hult said.
Van Allen and Hult agree that the 5th District race, as well as the Republican U.S. Senate races, are tests of how much Trump’s support can help candidates like McGuire and Hung Cao as the general election approaches. november.
