US President Joe Biden and several members of his family traveled to Camp David, the presidential retreat in neighboring Maryland, for the Christmas vacation.
Biden and his family members, including daughter Ashley Biden, son Hunter Biden and grandson Beau Biden, left the White House on Saturday.
First lady Jill Biden spent part of the day at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as part of her Join forces initiative.
She participated in a Christmas celebration with local military families and volunteers two weeks after a deadly EF-3 tornado caused destruction in the area.
“I know the holidays are a little different this year, so I brought this special guest with me from the North Pole!” Biden told those in attendance as he introduced Santa Claus, according to local WKRN news.
On December 9, severe storms ravaged Kentucky, including Fort Campbell. Base officials said 68 military families were still displaced, down from 354 just after the storm.
After the holiday event, Jill Biden headed to Camp David to be with the rest of her family.
The president and Jill Biden return to Washington on Tuesday then head to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands to spend the New Year’s holiday.
The Bidens visited Nationwide Children’s Hospital on Friday to meet with young patients and their families.
The first lady read “It was the night before Christmas to patients, while the President greeted and smiled at children and their family members.
First lady Bess Truman began annual visits to Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C., more than 70 years ago.
