Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), October 31 (ANI/WAM): Researchers, experts and specialists from several countries have claimed that Islamists extremism cannot be understood without examining the ideological foundations underlying political Islamnor can it be eliminated without attacking the thought it propagates.
This was discussed at the fourth annual Forum on Political Islam, organized by TRENDS Research and Consulting at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi under the theme “The Muslim Brotherhood and violence”, bringing together a distinguished panel of researchers and experts from around the world.
Eighteen researchers and academics from United Arab EmiratesFrance, Morocco, Tunisia, Germany and Canada called for a intellectual dialogue between the West and the Arab world to better understand this phenomenon and counter it through multidimensional approaches.
Speakers at the forum stressed the importance of unequivocally condemning terrorism and extremism in all its forms, rejecting double standards in the examination of these phenomena and affirming that terrorism should not be linked to any specific religion or nationality. They called for redefining terrorism to include not only those who engage in violence, but also those who theorize, justify and support it.
Experts stressed the importance of combating terrorism and rejecting its exploitation as a tool for geopolitical purposes.
They highlighted the need for dialogue between Western and Arab universities to deepen understanding of extremist and Islamist violence, as well as the need to address ideological justifications for violence and develop intellectual and practical strategies to counter effectively extremist ideologies.
