Donald Trump arrived at a rally in Wisconsin in a garbage truck. It read “Trump”. He knows how to put on a show. This was after US President Joe Biden called his supporters ‘trash’ Trump saw an opportunity to come with accessories and a vest. People noticed both. Biden’s comments and Trump’s efforts to denounce him and swing the election in his favor.
It was also the time Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris addressed a high-profile rally outside the White House. It was aimed at Latinos.
US ELECTIONS, WASTE BANG AND A STIN
But the election was about to take an interesting turn.
Biden’s statement would put his vice president and presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, in a difficult situation.
Biden responded to a comedian’s joke about Puerto Rico being a “floating island of garbage”, performed by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally.
“I don’t – I – I don’t know the Puerto Rican that – that I know – or the Puerto Rican, where I live – in my home state of Delaware, they are good, decent, honorable people,” he said. he declared, ABC reported.
This posed no problem for the president. But what he said next would get him in trouble.
“The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters – his – his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American.”
What followed was an attack on Biden’s statements by Trump in three battleground states in the United States. This came at a time when both candidates are seeing a tie in polls in battleground states in the United States.
Trump was in the swing state of Pennsylvania when he was briefed on Biden’s statement.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio broke the news to Trump at his rally.
“It’s terrible,” Trump said. “Remember Hillary, she said ‘deplorable’…that didn’t work. ‘Trash’ I think is worse, right?”
He compared it to Hillary Clinton’s 2016, where she called her supporters a “basket of deplorables.”
Trump explained to people at his rally that it was a sign of what Harris and Biden really thought about Trump supporters.
Biden “finally said what he and Kamala really think about our supporters,” Trump said at a rally in North Carolina.
But that wasn’t it.
TRUMP EMERGES WITH A VEST, ACCESSORIES AND A TRUCK
At Trump’s next rally in Wisconsin, he exited his plane wearing an orange vest and walked straight toward a garbage truck with a Trump campaign sign on it.
His team had arranged it.
“How do you like my garbage truck?” he asked. “This truck is in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden.”
It was Trump’s way of telling his supporters that he’s on their side even when Biden and Harris think they’re trash.
The image has stuck with many.
They heard Trump’s message loud and clear and even took to social media to share it.
“Some ‘trash’ just voted for Trump today,” one X user wrote.
“My asshole Garbage voted for the 34 x criminal and protector, Donald J. Trump,” wrote another.
For some people, this comment was intolerable.
“My brother died in combat in Iraq during Biden’s disastrous withdrawal. He was also a Trump supporter. He was not trash.” one user wrote.
People have also noticed how Trump is going all out to win the 2024 US elections.
“Joe Biden calls millions of Americans ‘trash’. The next day, Trump is picked up in Green Bay, Wisconsin by a garbage truck. He plays chess,” wrote US-based journalist Alana Mastrangelo.
HARRIS WALKS AWAY FROM BIDEN. BUT IS THIS ENOUGH?
As for Harris, she has been trying to distance herself from Biden since the start of her campaign.
She also distanced herself from Biden’s recent comments about Trump supporters.
“Donald Trump spent a decade trying to keep the American people divided and afraid of each other,” she said. “I will always listen to you, even if you don’t vote for me,” she added.
This is an effort to reach Republican voters who dislike Trump.
“Let me be clear: I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on which choice they vote for,” Harris said.
But American voters remain worried.
“I’m not going to try to explain why he said that, you know, it could have been a mistake or a gaffe on his part. It’s wrong,” Justin Warren, a Republican supporter, told ABC.
People shouldn’t be criticized for who they vote for, he said.
“I think silently there are a lot of Republicans who feel the same way I do,” he said.
This “trash” gaffe damaged Harris’ campaign.
“The vast majority of us have much more in common than what separates us,” Harris said at a rally in North Carolina.
However, Trump picked up the pace after Biden’s gaffe, and that too in the final moments of the campaign. He’s using trash as treasure in his attempt to seal the election against Harris.
