Joe Biden won the 2020 US presidential elections. Biden is expected to be sworn in in January 2021. However, current President Trump has refused to accept the election result. Before Trump, there were 44 presidents. Of these, 35 voluntarily agreed to be defeated in elections when they lost and some presidents, when they completed their two terms, themselves chose not to run for office. Eight other presidents have died and one resigned. In the history of the United States, no president has ever refused to leave the White House after losing an election. So what would happen if Trump refused to give in and leave the White House? According to the US Constitution, Trump will automatically cease to be president on January 20. Rosa Brooks, a law professor at Georgetown, said: “If Biden is officially certified as the winner in the US Congress on January 6, he will officially be the next president, whether Trump concedes or not. » If Trump refuses to physically leave the White House after January 20, he will most likely be physically removed. A former U.S. official and two experts said the Secret Service would physically remove Trump from the White House if he did not leave. Additionally, no rule in the U.S. Constitution can extend a president’s term. If no president has been chosen by January 20, 2021, then Nancy Pelosi – Speaker of the United States House of Representatives – will become president. Trump alleged fraud, he filed seven lawsuits in various US states to challenge the vote count results and alleged that the votes were counted illegally. Since the vote count began, Trump has repeatedly said he will sue the U.S. Supreme Court. What will happen if Trump goes to the Supreme Court? If the case goes to the U.S. Supreme Court for a vote, the Supreme Court’s nine justices will vote to make the decision. Today, Trump himself appointed three of the SC judges. For this reason, when the justices vote, the decision could be in favor of Trump. But if the Supreme Court votes for one candidate and the US Parliament votes for the other, then it will be the first time such a thing has happened in history. Nobody knows what will happen next. Donald Trump’s refusal to concede has made a smooth transition from the old president to the new one very difficult. However, Biden’s team has already begun informal transition work and will soon announce some of its new White House officials. Biden will also hold the first meeting to discuss the coronavirus situation on November 9, 2020.
