In response to the resolution, Israeli officials canceled a trip to Washington – to protest the United States’ refusal to use its veto. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office issued a statement, saying the US actions constituted “a clear departure” from its “consistent position since the start of the war.” The statement said the resolution gives Hamas hope that international pressure will force Israel to agree to a ceasefire, without the release of Israeli captives held in Gaza. Israel may have canceled its delegation’s visit to the United States, but its Defense Minister Yoav Gallant is already in Washington. He speaks separately with National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
