The Dodgers go to the White House on Monday for a celebration of their triumph of World Series, and for some players, it was a difficult decision. The Copped Stop Mookie Betts announced on Friday that he would attend, but he said that it was particularly difficult for him.
“Being black in America in a situation like this, it is a difficult place to be,” he said.
Betts refused to visit the White House during President Trump’s first term in 2019, when Betts was with the Red Sox in Boston. On Friday, he said that he regretted this, although he was one of the many players who boycotted the White House that year.
“No matter what I choose, someone is going to be upset. It’s not about me. It is not about politics. These are Dodgers and my loyalty to these boys in the clubhouse.”
The team’s planned visit has turned some fans who dispute the Trump administration. Los Angeles Times Sports columnist Dylan Hernández wrote That a trip to the White House would go against everything that the dodgers represent.
“Dodgers are trying to do everything possible to remind you that they are more than just a baseball team, that they are part of American history, that they are a social change agent,” said Hernández. “To date, the Dodgers are trying to wrap in the flag of Jackie Robinson.”
Robinson broke the Baseball Color Barrier when he joined the Dodgers in 1947. The Defense Ministry last month Removed a web page Sign up Robinson’s military service in the midst of a thrust to remove references to diversity, equity and inclusion and inclusion and inclusion put an end to these policies in the army.
The fan of Dodger Melissa Morales wants the team to jump for the White House for the repression of Trump’s immigration.
“I don’t think they should go,” she said, wearing her Dodger jacket, “especially since many fans are Latinos.”
When the Dodgers won the series during the 2020 season, interrupted by COVID, the team made the trip to the White House the following year for a celebration organized by former President Joe Biden. The Blake Treinen launcher, a vocal Trump supporter, brought together the White House festivities with the team that year. He is impatiently awaiting the visit on Monday.
“I am pumped. The biggest president of my life,” said Treinen about Trump. “Excited to meet him, shake his hand, thank him for what he does.”
As for all those who could decide not to participate this year, he said “they can choose what they want to do. For me, I am delighted to go.”
It is obvious for the fan of Dodgers Patrick Tee that the team should be there.
“Everyone goes when they win,” he said. “Why wouldn’t they go?”
Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts was reluctant to get caught in controversy, when he was facing questions from journalists.
“I’m not going to sit here and make it political,” he said after Wednesday evening at the Dodger Stadium. “I am delighted to recognize the champions of the World Series 2024, the Los Angeles Dodgers.”
The Dodgers won a Wednesday victory against the Braves of Atlanta over a Home Run by Shohei Ohtani, bringing them to 8-0. They finally lost their first match Friday evening against the Philadelphia Phillies.
After visiting the White House on Monday, the Dodgers are expected to launch an opening match of the season against the Washington Nationals.
