A White House official was confronted with Bill Hemmer of Fox News Monday, on a long list of foreign policy mistakes under President Biden following Iran’s direct attack on Israel.
Biden had warned Iran not to attack Israel this weekend, saying, “Don’t do it,” but the Islamic Republic fired 170 drones, more than 30 cruise missiles and more than 120 ballistic missiles toward Israel on Saturday . according to the IDF.
“Joe Biden said not to do it. But (Iran) did it anyway. John Kirby is with us now,” Hemmer, co-anchor of “America’s Newsroom” on Fox News Channel, said in featuring the White House. national security communications advisor on the show.
“You have your hands full,” Hemmer said.
“I was thinking about President Biden’s record. Here’s what stands out: The withdrawal from Afghanistan was a disaster. We failed to stop Putin from entering Ukraine. The war with Israel and Hamas was absolutely terrible and destructive. Again, this is the first time that Iran has targeted Israel. China’s military buildup is substantial. And that’s what I argued this morning. American persuasion are better today than they were four years ago in the world?
Kirby replied: “Oh yeah. Yeah, 100%, I can do that very comfortably.”
“Or?” Hemmer followed.
“He is a president who understands American leadership on the global stage. He has dedicated additional resources, not only military, but also diplomatic and economic, around the world to advance our national security interests…I I mean, American leadership was absolutely vital in helping Israel defend itself,” Kirby responded.
Hemmer also asked Kirby whether the administration would consider reconsidering allowing Iran access to billions of dollars as part of lifting sanctions against the country.
“Iran has been a pain for your administration. It has been a pain for Israel considering its support for Hamas in light of Saturday’s events when Iran struck Israel for the first time…Is “Time to rethink Iran’s access to billions of dollars in electricity sales between Iraq and Iran? Will this policy be stopped, sir?
Kirby responded by pointing to the Trump administration.
“This is something that needs to be extended every few months, Bill, and the previous administration also extended it, as did we, because the Iraqi people are so dependent right now on energy and resources of Iran,” he said.
The interview followed Kirby pointing the finger at former President Trump for allegedly emboldening Iran on Fox News Channel on Sunday.
“It’s hard to look at what President Biden has done and say we’ve been soft on Iran,” Kirby said on “Fox News Sunday.” “It was the previous administration that decided to pull us out of the Iran deal. And now Iran is much closer to a potential nuclear capability than it was before the election of Mr. Trump.”
GOP senators criticized what they see as Biden’s continued weakness on deterrence after the Iranian regime ignored his request.
“So much for President Biden telling the bad guys, ‘Don’t,’ which is actually an effective deterrent. Every time he says, ‘Don’t,’ they do it,” wrote Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., in an article on Saturday.
