The White House is mocking a Fox News reporter who raised questions about President Biden’s age over the holiday weekend and then reported on his own question.
During a segment on “Fox News Sunday,” correspondent Lucas Tomlinson reported that Biden, 81, “continues to have questions about his age, even here on Nantucket.”
“Mr. President, are you too old to run for re-election? Tomlinson was heard yelling at Biden during a sound bite played as part of the package, following a question about Biden’s electoral struggles.
“That’s stupid,” Biden responded when asked about his age.
After Tomlinson’s report was released, the president’s top press aides mocked the reporter for calling attention to his own issues.
“(A)re you able to speculate about the voice that is screaming? » Andrew Bates, Biden aide posted on social media on Sunday. “It looks familiar, but I’m having trouble placing it.”
Bates and others in the Biden White House shared online stories and media expertise pointing out that Tomlinson “did not note in the package broadcast on Fox News Sunday…that he was the reporter who shouted this question”, and accusing Tomlinson of “astroturf a political attack. »
Biden often faces shouted questions from reporters from a wide range of media outlets, both at the White House and while traveling on vacation or on official presidential business.
Recent a public poll showed bipartisan concern over president’s age.
Relations between Fox, the most-watched cable news channel, and the Biden White House have been particularly strained throughout his presidency.
In 2022, Biden called Fox’s top White House reporter Peter Doocy a “stupid son of a bitch” after asking a question about rising inflation, while Bates and others at the White House de Biden have condemned some of them programming and experts on Fox airwaves with regularity.
