The White House on Monday refused to answer questions about what it claims are “conspiracy theories” about corruption within the Biden family.
The denial came as Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates spoke to reporters aboard Air Force One ahead of a likely House vote this week for the launch. a formal impeachment investigation against President Biden and the possible appearance of his son, Hunter, for testimony before the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees on Wednesday.
“I’m not going to intervene in this process except to say that President Biden is focused on the issues that matter most to American families,” Bates said. “You see him today preparing to respond to the Philadelphia Fire Department. As I mentioned, we are making a historic announcement in advanced manufacturing to continue to bring jobs back from overseas.”
“He’s focused on what matters to American families, not Marjorie Taylor Greene’s conspiracy theories about her own family,” he added, referring to the Republican representative. Marjorie Taylor GreeneR-Ga., a supporter of Biden’s impeachment and a GOP member often targeted by Democrats for political attacks.
House Republicans hope to hold a formal vote on whether to formally launch the investigation this week, but face opposition from Democrats and some members of their own party. However, Republican Party opposition to the investigation waned as members representing districts Biden won in 2020 began to support the move.
That includes Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., who told Politico he was shifting from opposing the investigation to supporting it because of the increased likelihood that Biden will cooperate.

“The president says he won’t provide information until we have an investigation, so I went from no to yes,” he told the outlet.
Representative of the chairman of the supervisory committee. James Comer, R-Ky., led the wide-ranging investigation into Biden, which focused on Hunter, his various overseas business dealings and the money he obtained from them. The committee held an impeachment inquiry hearing in September as part of that investigation.
The White House has repeatedly said Biden did nothing wrong and had no knowledge of his son’s business dealings.

In addition, the control and judicial committees published an official notice last week for Hunter’s closed-door deposition on Wednesday, although the president’s son has so far refused to comply with the subpoena to testify behind closed doors.
Hunter’s lawyer informed Comer and House Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Jim JordanR-Ohio last week that the president’s son would only appear to testify before the committee in a public setting.
