WASHINGTON — “The speed with which the White House and the press are moving the goalposts on what is considered a shameful Biden family affair is remarkable, even if it doesn’t change the facts,” said Kimberly Strassel of THE Wall Street Journal Editorial committee writing in his last column. She continues: “The evidence – from the evidence that Joe was present during Hunter’s business calls to these final checks – is that Joe was aware of the family cashing in his name and lent his presence and money to this cause. »
In The Wall Street Journal, Strassel walks the financial trail followed by the House Oversight and Accountability Committee and Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.), which reveals that Joe Biden personally benefited from his family’s influence peddling around his name. Despite clear evidence of direct payments to Joe Biden, the White House and Democrats continue to defend the president’s lies about his knowledge and involvement in his family’s business dealings.
Key extracts:
“The speed with which the White House and the press are moving the goalposts on what is considered a shameful Biden family affair is remarkable, even if it does not change the facts. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer’s disclosure of evidence of family payments to Joe Biden is a problem for the White House no matter how it turns out..”
“The committee’s narrative is this: The first check to Joe was written on September 3, 2017, although the financial trail begins earlier with his son Hunter. In the first half of 2017, Hunter and his partners negotiated a joint venture with CEFC, a Shanghai-based energy company linked to the Chinese government. An email from a Hunter associate discussing stock stakes suggested 10% of the joint venture be held by Hunter for the “big guy.”
“The CEFC was asked to commit capital of $10 million. When the money did not arrive, a frustrated Hunter sent a WhatsApp message on July 30, 2017 to Raymond Zhao, an associate of CEFC. He said he sat with his father, demanded payment and warned: “I will make sure that between the man sitting next to me and everyone he knows and my ability to keep forever grudge, you will regret not having followed my instructions.”
“A week later, a Chinese company affiliated with CEFC sent $5 million to a joint venture between Hunter and a CEFC associate. That same day, this joint venture sent $400,000 to an entity controlled by Hunter. Less than a week later, Hunter transferred $150,000 from his entity to a company owned by James and Sara Biden. On August 28, 2017, Sara withdrew $50,000 from the said company. The same day, she deposited it into a personal bank account that belonged to her and her husband. Prior to this deposit, the balance in this personal account was $46.88. On September 3, she wrote a check for $40,000 from this account to Joe Biden. Elementary math graduates will notice that $40,000 is 10% of $400,000.

“The second check addressed to Joe Biden was written on March 1, 2018, again by James and Sara. In 2018, James convinced a hospital operator, Americore Health, to loan him $600,000, which a subsequent corporate bankruptcy filing said was “based on representations that his last name, “Biden ”, could “open doors” and that he could obtain a significant sum. investment from the Middle East based on its political connections. On March 1, 2018, Americore wired $200,000 to James and Sara Biden’s personal account. That same day, James wrote Joe the $200,000 check.

“Most importantly, it destroys the president’s long-standing claim that he was isolated from the family business.
“Even though James’s $40,000 check to Joe was a refund, this transfer was guaranteed by Hunter’s China transactions. It was Hunter’s “work” – leveraging his father’s name – that allowed Joe to be “paid back”.

“Does the White House really expect Americans to believe that Joe requested no information about his brother’s nearly quarter-million-dollar demand, or that they are naive enough to think that this fund did not help the Biden family cash register??
“As House Republicans have become more entrenched, the Biden team’s explanations have changed.
“First, Joe had “never talked” about business to Hunter. At the time, the president was “not in business” with his son. Now, according to watchdog Democrat Jamie Raskin, Joe “did not profit from his family members’ business ventures.” The goal posts are now on a completely different pitch.
“Yet the evidence – from proof that Joe was present on Hunter’s business calls to these final checks – is that Joe was aware that the family had cashed in on his name and lent his presence and money to the cause..”
