Liz Truss said the world “needs a Republican back in the White House,” adding that “we saw Joe Biden asleep at the wheel.”
In a speech near Washington, D.C., the former prime minister did not mention Donald Trump, the former president who is the front-runner in the race for the Republican nomination.
Speaking to GB News, Ms. Truss also said Mr. Biden “needs to be removed” from the White House.

Ms. Truss was speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), an annual conference that aligns with the right of American politics.
Mr. Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, was one of those who spoke before Ms. Truss, and the former president is expected to speak on Saturday.
This year the event was held in National Harbor, Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC.
Speaking about the presidency, Ms. Truss said: “Of course we need a Republican in the White House.”
“It’s not just America that desperately needs it, we desperately need it throughout the free world, because you are the leaders of the free world whether you like it or not.”
She said Republicans are also needed in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
But these Republicans “must” be ready to fight and “not give in to the establishment.”
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson told The Sun there was “little doubt” that “the world has felt safer, calmer and more stable” during Mr Trump’s presidency.
“Right now, much of the world yearns for the stability that comes with strong and decisive American leadership,” he added.
“A lot of well-meaning people are shaking like crazy at the thought of another Trump presidency. I’m not sure why they’re so alarmed.”
During her speech, Ms Truss complained about how her attempts to rule the UK had been foiled by “the left”, backed by Iran, Russia and China.
She also said the West has been ruled by the left “for too long.” The Conservatives have been in power in one form or another in the United Kingdom since 2010.
But Ms Truss said the left “has not accepted” that it lost the election and has “weaponized” things like the justice system.
She also attacked the OBR (Office for Budget Responsibility), the Bank of England, the International Monetary Fund and Mr Biden for attacking his economic plans, which threatened to collapse Britain’s pension markets.
The former prime minister drew laughs when she joked that it was insulting to see her economy insulted by the creator of ‘Bidenomics’.

At one point, Ms Truss said her attempts at disruption had failed – but not because they had gone too far.
Instead, she said conservatives “need a bigger bazooka” to get their results.
