If the House Republican Party votes to authorize an impeachment inquiry into President Biden, it will show that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is “really taking the lead,” the White House said in a new memo.
The memo is the White House’s latest effort to tie the House Republican Party’s push for an impeachment inquiry to its most diehard members such as Greene, a staunch supporter of former President Trump.
The vote would be difficult for Republican lawmakers representing districts won by Biden, and the memo serves as a warning about how the White House and Democrats are likely to use the votes to open an impeachment inquiry as a political weapon against them .
“Marjorie Taylor Greene may be calling for the House to impeach, but many House Republicans have already said publicly that the evidence simply does not support their accusation,” said House Speaker Ian Sams. White for surveillance, in the note.
“Americans I already believe massively “House Republicans are prioritizing the wrong things, and any vote for MTG’s favorite pastime would reveal that she is truly calling the shots in this extreme House Republican conference.”
On the front page of The Hill
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) signaled that a vote to open an investigation was imminent, after former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) opted not to hold a floor vote to formally open one investigation.
In the memo, obtained exclusively by The Hill, the White House notes that some House Republicans have said there is not enough evidence to support formal impeachment proceedings, including Rep. Ken Buck (Colorado ). an opinion article and Rep. Don Bacon (Neb.) a comment.
He also emphasized Washington Post report Last month, Johnson “indicated that there is not enough evidence at this time to initiate formal impeachment proceedings.”
Sams pointed to an Impact Research survey released in November that found 68 percent of Americans think Republicans prioritize things wrong.
“All of these House Republicans and their colleagues should explain why they would change their tune now and join his baseless exercise to smear President Biden when their allegations have already been thoroughly fact-checked and debunked, instead of focusing on the problems they claimed to have. their priorities when running for office, such as reducing inflation, growing the economy and strengthening national security,” Sams said.
The increased pushback from the White House comes after House Republicans were wonder whether to consolidate their impeachment inquiry by taking a formal vote on the matter.
Sat last week rejected Republican claims that the investigation was blocked by the White House, noting that it sent letters to House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan ( R-Ohio), offering to meet or talk further and that the president’s son, Hunter Biden, offered to testify; Last week, the younger Biden offered to testify publicly.
