In an effort to “sow discord and shape the outcome of the U.S. election,” Iranian Cyber Actors U.S. agencies said they sent messages over the summer to people involved in President Biden’s re-election campaign containing materials stolen from former President Trump’s campaign.
“Malicious Iranian cyber actors sent unsolicited emails in late June and early July to individuals then associated with President Biden’s campaign that contained an excerpt from stolen, non-public documents belonging to former President Biden. President Trump’s campaign “as text in emails,” the FBI, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said in a joint statement Wednesday.
The agencies noted that there is currently no information on whether recipients responded to the messages.
THE US Intelligence Agencies Iran also claimed that its interference in the election had continued since June and that it had sent stolen campaign materials to American media outlets.

“In addition, malicious Iranian cyber actors have continued their efforts since June to send stolen and non-public material associated with former President Trump’s campaign to U.S. media outlets,” they said.
The agencies said Iran’s continued interference in the elections is aimed at “stirring up discord and undermining confidence in the our electoral process” . “
“As the lead threat responder, the FBI is tracking this activity, has been in contact with victims, and will continue to investigate and gather information to pursue and disrupt the threat actors responsible,” they said. “Foreign actors are ramping up their election influence activities as we approach November.”
WATCH:
During a campaign stop on Wednesday evening in Uniondale, New York StateFormer President Trump has commented on Iranian interference in the election, calling it “madness.”
“Three agencies of the Kamala Harris and Joe Biden administration — the FBI, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and Cybersecurity, and the Infrastructure Security Agency — just released a report confirming that Iranian actors hacked the Trump campaign’s email accounts and, in turn, sought to pass the hacked documents to the Biden-Harris campaign. They gave them all the documents because Biden is working with Iran, and Iran doesn’t really like me because they were willing to make a deal.”
“But we cannot let this madness continue,” Trump said. “That’s why, in less than two months, we’re going to tell Kamala that we’ve had enough. Kamala, you’ve been a terrible vice president. You’re going to be an even worse president. We’re not going to stand for this anymore. You’re out. Get out!”
Iran is not the only foreign adversary accused of interfering in the 2024 presidential election.
On July 10, ODNI officials called Russia the “preeminent threat” to the election.
“These are all tactics that we’ve seen before, primarily through social media, efforts to use influential American voices to amplify their narratives and other tactics,” ODNI officials told reporters in July. “And in terms of who’s being targeted, what we can say today is that Russia is sophisticated enough to know that targeting voters in key states is particularly valuable to them.”
